Our over-arching mission is to serve the rural poor in China through:

  • Medical research
  • Education and training of rural medical professionals
  • Providing free healthcare to impoverished Chinese farmers and their children

The activities of the China California Heart Watch generate no profits. We operate through the generosity and vision of our donors and participants, foundations, and granting agencies.

Announcements:

  • The China Cal Photo Book has been released. Get yours now! Simply make a donation of $150 or more and send a request for a Photo Book to Dr. Robert Detrano (robert@chinacal.org).   • In December, China Cal intern George Qiao won a gold medal from the American Alliance of Young Artists and Writers for his essay on his experience during his internship in Yunnan. This award is the highest recognition for young writers in the US and Canada. George is the son of China Cal Research Director, Renli Qiao. The essay about his experience can be downloaded here. The award ceremony will be held in Carnegie Hall in New York City in May. Congratulations, George!
  • In October, China Cal received a grant of two million RMB (~$360,000) from the Chinese Overseas Student Development Foundation in order to expand our programs caring for children with congenital heart disease. China Cal director Robert Detrano traveled to Beijing to receive the award. Chinese readers can read more about the award here.
  • Also in October, China Cal Director Robert Detrano received the title of “Kunming Good Person” from the Yunnan Provincial TV Station. Chinese readers can read about the award here and here.
